"I’m interested in placing time-based media with static physical objects in order to make something that is both material and ethereal. I mean “time-based media” broadly. It can include light, language; anything that changes over time. My work often uses small, ordinary but metaphoric objects. It’s quiet and brief. It’s meant to be contemplative. I’m concerned with phenomenology; what I understand as the peculiarity and beauty of circumstance. I hope the work suggests that what we think of as idiosyncratic habits of perception and memory, are actually shared."
Sarah Rushford lives in Jamaica Plain Massachusetts. Here, she does freelance design and video editing, and continues making art in various media including photography, audio, video, drawing and sculpture. She was educated at Hartford Art School in Connecticut, and The New School in New York. Her work has been shown in galleries and screened at festivals including The New York Video Festival, and LaMaMa La Galleria in New York.
